This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. Today, we feature Myriam Djenabou of Épicerie Okapi in Bathurst.
Okapi is a grocery offering all residents of the Chaleur region an introduction to African gastronomy and culture. Offering a world of flavours and, most importantly, a gathering place for the community, Myriam and team strive for community in all that they do.
”It’s important for us, this exchange of cultures that happens here every day. It’s inviting. It creates conversation and togetherness.”
Celebrating its first anniversary last March, the business is still on a trajectory of growth. Thanks to the many supporters and customers, the grocery store has a bright future ahead.
