This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. Today, we hear from Micha Fardy of the Friends of Fundy in Alma.
THE FRIENDS OF FUNDY WAS INCORPORATED IN 1982 AS A NON-PROFIT, CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION. THE FOUNDING MEMBERS OF OUR ORGANIZATION WERE RECOGNIZED AND CELEBRATED FOR THEIR ECOLOGICAL EXPERTISE, THEIR PRIDE OF PLACE, THEIR SUPPORT OF FUNDY NATIONAL PARK AND THEIR DEEP BELIEF IN THE IMPORTANCE OF LEADERSHIP AND COLLABORATION FOR VIBRANT, PROSPEROUS, AND SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES.
Together, we work to enhance public awareness and appreciation of the cultural and natural heritage of Fundy National Park and increase engagement in the surrounding (Upper Bay of Fundy) area.
As the official Friends of Fundy National Park, we support meaningful visitor experiences that contribute to the region’s conservation and sustainable development goals. We also work closely with our partners on a variety of events such as the Rising Tide Trails & Tunes Festival, the Fundy All Nations Pow Wow as well as workshops and talks with local artisans.
We operate three gift shop locations within the park and Village of Alma. The shops host one of New Brunswick’s largest selections of nature books as well as locally crafted jewelry, art, natural products and a fine assortment of games, puzzles, souvenirs and official Fundy National Park merchandise.
Membership is open to everyone and all proceeds from our gift shops are reinvested to achieve park and community goals through events and programming.
Local organizations and businesses hold the stories and experiences that welcome people to this wonderful region of the world. Local organizations ARE local people: individuals who hold a deep pride of place and commitment to sharing that pride with others so that they respect and value our communities as if they lived here.
Local organizations make a difference because they know and understand how important it is to work together, to support each other so that the communities in which we operate thrive.
