This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses, and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. Today we feature Melissa and Mikael Savoie of Gestion M2 Inc., in Charlo.
HAVING BOTH GROWN UP IN THE RESTIGOUCHE REGION, WE KNOW HOW MUCH OUR REGION HAS TO OFFER TOURISTS: THE BEACHES OF THE BAIE DES CHALEURS, THE RESTIGOUCHE RIVER, MOUNT SUGARLOAF, SNOWMOBILE TRAILS, AND MORE.
However, there seemed to be a lack of lodging to accommodate tourists, especially those traveling in groups or families. With the emergence of Airbnb and the growing popularity of short-term rentals, we saw a great opportunity to start a business.
After only one year in business, we were confronted with a new reality. The entire tourism industry has been turned upside down thanks to Covid-19.
Tourists from Europe, the United States, and even other Atlantic Provinces were being denied access to New Brunswick. Initially, we expected the worst, but to our surprise, people from Restigouche and elsewhere in the province began renting our establishments to have a little vacation locally.
This has not only allowed our business to survive, but it has allowed us to continue to grow. For this reason, we are extremely grateful for the support of the people of our beautiful region.
