This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses, and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. Today we feature Jesse Howatt of Local by Atta, in Moncton.

My brother Julian and I grew up on PEI in a family with many generations of farmers.

After our studies at university in urban planning, we developed an interest in sustainable urban agriculture. In 2013, we founded Local by Atta with the goal of strengthening food security in the Greater Moncton Area by providing healthy, pesticide-free leafy greens year-round.

We are growing a local product for the local market, and rely 100 percent on local support. So we get it, supporting local has a huge impact on our local community.

Local support oftentimes is the only support new businesses have out of the gate. Without local support, starting a business is near impossible.

Supporting a local business is more than spending with them: it’s investing in your current and future community.
