This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. In this segment, Jenna White Of Jenna’s Nut-Free Dessertery in Fredericton talks about having a passion for baking since she was a child.

I AM PROUDLY METIS AND THE CREATOR BEHIND JENNA’S NUT-FREE DESSERTERY, A 100 PERCENT ABORIGINAL-OWNED BUSINESS OUT OF FREDERICTON. I AM ALSO A WIFE AND A PROUD MOMMA TO THREE BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN.

I couldn’t be more excited to have the opportunity to bring my creations to the Boyce Farmers Market and soon to 170 Urquhart Crescent. It’s no secret I LOVE to bake, I always have! I enjoyed baking with my mother and grandmother as a child. As a teenager, I took over the family kitchen as often as I could.

Cheesecakes and birthday cakes were my favourite things to bake. After losing a large portion of my eyesight a few years ago (leaving me legally blind) it’s still one of my favourite things to do. Sure, things aren’t as easy in the kitchen as they used to be but I find the loss of sight helps me balance flavours in a way I didn’t before. I pay more attention to smells and textures and it works!
