THE ALBERT COUNTY MUSEUM (ACM) IS AN ORIGINAL “SHIRETOWN” DATING BACK TO 1845 WHEN OUR COUNTY WAS ESTABLISHED AND NAMED BY QUEEN VICTORIA AFTER HER BELOVED HUSBAND ALBERT – WHEN SHE WAS ONLY 26 YEARS OLD! OUR MUSEUM’S 24 EXHIBITS, FEATURED IN 8 BUILDINGS, INCLUDE STORIES DATING FROM THE LATE 1600S WITH THE ARRIVAL OF ACADIAN SETTLERS.
We are also the official commemorate centre for Prime Minister RB Bennett, who grew up in Hopewell Cape and is the only New Brunswick-born PM. Open as a museum since 1962, we will be celebrating our 60th anniversary in 2022 and planning is well underway!

The Albert County Historical Society, which owns and operates ACM, was formed in 1957 to preserve the history of the Albert County region. We work with other organizations and groups to ensure that history and culture are shared with both residents and visitors alike. We are members of several local, provincial and national not-for-profit organizations, and support local initiatives and projects to benefit all community members.

Funded in part by Tourism, Heritage and Culture New Brunswick, we play an important role in honouring the strong legacy of our province, from our role in the founding of Canada, our shipbuilding and commerce history, and our patriotic involvement in WWI and WWII.

We also share the history of leadership and legacy of RB Bennett and his role in shaping our nation. Located near the famous Hopewell Rocks, a visit to the Albert County Museum is a glimpse into the proud story of New Brunswick and our history as the “People of the Tides.”
