This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. In this segment, Jacques Allain talks about the lost art of handmade, fresh donuts.
WE THOUGHT MONCTON WOULD APPRECIATE AN OLD-SCHOOL DONUT SHOP. HANDMADE, FRESH DONUTS HAVE BEEN A LOST ART IN THE LAST FEW DECADES. AFTER TESTING OUR CONCEPT AT LOCAL FARMERS’ MARKETS, MY BUSINESS PARTNERS GENE AND SUSAN CORMIER AND I DECIDED TO COMBINE OUR COLLECTIVE EXPERIENCE AND CREATED HALO DONUTS.
If anything, this past year has shown us all that supporting local businesses extends far beyond economic benefits. It’s a way to build community, to get to know each other and to connect with people every day.
Moving forward, we want to continue to find ways to contribute to the community. We’ve been so well supported in these last few months, and we want to give back. Downtown Moncton has been such a great space for us to grow into and we look forward to finding ways that we can help support the people that make it so vibrant. We support local because it builds communities.
