This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses, and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. Today we feature Jack Lamey of the Progress Club of Greater Moncton.

WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE IS OUR MEMBERS! PROGRESS MEMBERS ARE COMMUNITY-MINDED PEOPLE WHO GET TOGETHER IN A FUN ATMOSPHERE TO SOCIALIZE, LEARN, AND GIVE BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY. WE DO THIS THROUGH DISTINCTIVE AND INNOVATIVE FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES LIKE THE ANTLER BREAKFAST, TIPSY MOUSE, AND PLEDGE FOR PROGRESS.

Everyone in the club works hard when there is something to be done, and while meetings aren’t long, we have lots of laughter and smiles at everyone. After our biggest fundraiser, the Antler Breakfast, we will gather for the final tally and realize that we just changed the lives of kids living in our community, and it feels really, really good.

We give between $50,000 and $100,000 annually to help youth-focused organizations finance their operations. We play a major role in maintaining Camp Livingston, a camp near Alma that caters to inner-city children and charities, in order to make sure kids get access to the great outdoors.

One of our favourite Progress Club activities is the “Christmas in the Pedway”, where we arrange for children from the pediatric units of both hospitals to gather for a holiday party and watch the Christmas parade in a safe, warm environment in the pedway over Main Street.

New Brunswick is a great place to live, work and raise a family. Communities thrive when everyone pitches in and children are able to live to their fullest potential.

The Progress Club – Greater Moncton (as well as other Progress Clubs across the province) is proud to be doing its part by directly helping families and supporting organizations like Sistema, Camp Livingston, the Boys and Girls Clubs, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Atlantic Wellness, Beaverbrook School, the Dyslexic Learning Center and so many more groups to continue the wonderful work they do.
