This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses, and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. Today we feature Ellen MacDonald and Serge LeBlanc of Old Time Meat Market in Riverview.

TUCKED IN THE BACK OF A STRIP MALL ON PINE GLEN ROAD IN RIVERVIEW, THE OLD TIME MEAT MARKET HAS BEEN SERVING UP GREAT CUTS OF STEAK, FRESH FOOD BOXES AND “THE BEST HAMBURGER PATTIES AROUND” FOR ABOUT A DECADE.

We have a lot of Riverview residents, but we also have a lot of customers who come from Dieppe, we’ve had some people who come from Salisbury, we have a couple who comes from Amherst on a regular basis – we are fortunate to have so many locals supporting our business.

Owning a local meat market wasn’t necessarily in our plans, but when the opportunity arose, we leapt at it. As a small business, we try to keep our prices down. We only go up when it starts to cut into our operating costs. Our margins are the same. Our prices went up from a few years ago, but we’re not making any more money. As a business, we’re not trying to make a million off customers’ backs, we’re just trying to make a living.

The Old Time Meat Market has become ingrained in Riverview over the last decade and has been a proud supporter of local schools and sports teams. It’s rewarding to be a presence in the community and be able to give back through what we do.
