This is part of a year-long ‘Love for Local’ series called NB365: portraits of New Brunswick entrepreneurs, businesses and organizations. Huddle is a media partner with Love for Local. Today, we hear from Claire & Allison McCain of On The Boardwalk Café in Florenceville-Bristol.
FLORENCEVILLE IS A WONDERFUL PLACE TO LIVE AND RAISE A FAMILY. WE HAVE A FULL RANGE OF SPORTING, CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES. THANKS TO MCCAIN’S PRESENCE, IT ALSO HAS A STRONG, RICH FARMING COMMUNITY THAT PROVIDES A WEALTH OF FRESH LOCAL INGREDIENTS.
Florenceville has a diverse population with people drawn from around the world. In opening the café, we have added a new dimension to the town: a venue for fine dining. Hopefully, it will develop a reputation which will draw more people to the area.
Supporting local is very rewarding and the network is very wide. People notice and appreciate it and they, in turn, support us in a virtuous circle. We want to continue to build our reputation as a great dining experience.
Instead of driving right through, we will offer travellers and locals a sumptuous meal overlooking the St John River. Supporting local businesses has made a real impact because it offers the community the opportunity to grow and prosper with us. It is just good business.
